James: Chapter Eleven

Every thing he had ever wanted to say to her in the past three years flew out the window as she leaned into him, closing the distance. Every doubt, every profanity, every question; all of it gone as her lips met his.

There had been no one since her, he hadn’t been able to bring himself to go through it all over again, and now that she was kissing him again he didn’t want there to ever be anyone else again. Only her.

Only Alicia.

A savage snarling sound tore through the air, breaking the spell. James pushed Alicia away from him, suddenly disgusted with himself for giving in to her so easily. The disgust only doubled as he noticed Maze over her shoulder.

He was the source of the snarling. A feral, guttural sound that rolled up from his chest and forced it’s way through his clenched, fanged teeth as he stood in the archway between the kitchen and living area, fists clenched, glaring at the couple on the couch.

Before James could ask him what the matter was, the alien gnashed his teeth angrily, huffed one last snarl and stormed away, slamming the door of his bedroom as he disappeared into it.

“Someone’s cranky,” Alicia smirked at him.

“Get out,” James turned back to her.

“What? But I thought—”

“You thought wrong,” he cut her off sharply, pointing a finger in her face. “Did you think you could just waltz back in here, kiss me, and make everything better? You left me Alicia. For another man. And you couldn’t even act like a decent human being long enough to tell me! I will never forgive you for that.”

She gaped in shock at him for several long minutes before speaking again. “You’ve changed,” she said quietly, shaking her head.

“Yes I have,” he agreed. “I’m no longer willing to put up with your shit. You need to leave.”

“Or what?” she laughed nastily. “You’ll sick your feral boyfriend on me?”

“Not my boyfriend,” James spat. “And not him you need to worry about. Get out of my house. Now."

“You know,” Alicia said icily as she got up off the couch. “I thought you had more sense than this Jamie.”

“Clearly you thought I had no sense at all,” he snapped back, getting to his feet as well. “If you thought I would ever take you back after everything you’ve put me through, even before you left. And I swear to god if you call me ‘Jamie’ one more time…”

“You’ll what?” she raised an eyebrow at him. “You would never hurt me, you’re too weak.”

“You’re right,” he agreed and then smirked at her. “But the alien in the other room certainly doesn’t seem to like you. If you like we could call him back out here and—”

She laughed loudly, unkindly. “Typical,” she shook her head. “Always hiding behind someone else. But I guess now that you have your big savage boyfriend, he can do all the fighting for you.”

“Maze isn’t—” James cut himself off. He wasn’t going to say it again, he was tired of explaining things to her. She didn’t deserve his explanations. “Get. Out.”

She laughed again but thankfully turned and headed through the kitchen towards the front door. James followed closely and as they walked passed the dining area they both heard a loud crashing sound followed by a string of unintelligible curses.

Alicia turned her head towards the sound as she continued and smirked over her shoulder at James. “Sounds like your boyfriend is jealous,” she laughed nastily again. “I hope you’re not as breakable as whatever he’s smashing in there because—“

James didn’t let her finish. He stormed passed her and yanked open the front door. Before she could finish her sentence, even though it stood against everything he believed in, he grabbed her elbow and propelled her forcefully through the open door into the cold night air. He had never manhandled a woman in his life but he needed her out of his house.

Alicia cried out, more in surprise than pain, and stumbled several times before righting herself and pulling her arm free of his grip. She opened her mouth, he assumed to yell at or belittle him again, but he had already closed the door in her face.

With a heavy sigh he spun around and leaned against the door frame, letting his head fall back against the door. A smile tugged at his lips as he heard Alicia give a wordless cry of rage before storming off.
