James: Chapter Twenty Six

It wasn’t until Maze’s normally flat stomach began to visibly show signs of the pregnancy that the whole thing became real for James.

It seemed to happen suddenly. One night Maze’s stomach was the same as it always had been and then the next morning, as James hugged him from behind while he was cooking breakfast, he felt the slight swelling and couldn’t help but run his hands over it in fascination.

As Maze’s stomach grew, James love for both him and their child grew with it. The moment he had first felt a kick, after sitting on the bed with his hand on Maze’s stomach for twenty minutes, he knew he’d never loved anyone as much as he loved the two of them. Now when they were in public, he knew why people were staring, and he didn’t care. He was proud to be seen with the magnificent creature that was carrying his child and he didn’t care who knew it.

The pregnancy had a strange affect on Maze as well. The usually sharp-tongued, quick-tempered attitude he’d had since they first met slowly faded. As their child grew Maze became calmer, gentler, and kinder. James wasn’t sure how he felt about the change. He loved Maze no matter what but this new, softer version of the alien was slightly unnerving.
